FIGURES ON SCALES
On one yoke of the scale (see figure on the cover) there is an octaed, on the other there are four terraeds. It turns out that if the edges of all figures are equal, then the volume of the octaed is equal to the sum of the volumes of the four terraeds, and therefore the scales are in equilibrium. Try to prove this statement. Use the similarity transformation and prove that
that if an octaed with edges half as large as the edges of the original bodies is cut out of a tatraed, then four terraeds will remain (the same with half as many ribs). So, if all bodies are solid, then one octaed is balanced by four terraeds. What if the bodies are hollow or consist only of ribs?
